About Us

Welcome to The Plant Genius

We started The Plant Genius the way most plant obsessions begin — with one pot on a windowsill. What began as a small collection of easy houseplants slowly turned into shelves of Monsteras, a rotating cast of succulents, a few carnivorous plants we couldn’t resist, and more trial-and-error than we’d like to admit.

Along the way, we killed our fair share of plants. We overwatered things that wanted to dry out. We put shade-lovers in direct sun. We panicked over yellowing leaves that turned out to be completely normal. Every mistake taught us something, and eventually those lessons turned into real, working knowledge — the kind you only get from actually growing the plants, not just reading about them.

That’s the gap we built this site to fill.

Why We Do This

Most plant care advice online falls into two camps: overly technical horticulture jargon, or vague tips that don’t actually tell you what to do. We wanted something different — clear, practical, plant-specific guidance that answers the real question people have when they’re standing over a wilting plant at 11pm: “What do I do right now?”

Whether you’re caring for a forgiving pothos, coaxing a fussy calathea back to health, setting up an aquarium plant tank, or figuring out why your tomato plants won’t fruit, our goal is the same: give you a straight answer, backed by what actually works.

What You’ll Find Here

  • Houseplant and foliage care guides — from beginner-friendly staples to trickier tropicals
  • Succulent and cactus care — watering, light, and dormancy explained simply
  • Flowering and ornamental plant guides — indoor and outdoor
  • Vines, trailing plants, and hanging varieties
  • Palms, aquatic plants, and carnivorous plants for the more adventurous growers
  • Vegetable, fruit, and herb care for anyone growing something to eat
  • Seasonal and general care guides — winter care, office plants, and troubleshooting

Every guide is written to be specific to the plant in question, not a generic template — because a hydrangea and a hoya need very different things, and we think your care advice should reflect that.

Our Approach

We’re not a lab or a botany department — we’re plant people who’ve put in the hours, made the mistakes, and kept notes. We continually update our guides as we learn more, and we’re always growing (pun intended) our library to cover more of the plants you’re actually asking about.

Thanks for stopping by. Pull up a chair, grab your watering can, and let’s help your plants thrive.
